Connection - The Foundation Of Relationship

Why are we here?

What is the purpose of our lives?

What is this all about?

These are questions humanity has wrestled with since the beginning. And they matter...because they reveal a deeper longing in our souls to belong to something greater than ourselves. Each of us is born with a desire to be known, understood, and connected. We long for safety, meaning, and freedom from isolation. Isolation and connection produce very different things in the soul. It’s not insignificant that isolation is exactly where the enemy would love to keep us. But God’s plan has always been connection. From the very beginning, God has desired relationship with His people. He is a good Father who longs to be involved in the lives of His children. Connection has been His heart since the Garden of Eden.

“He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief… Yet it was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down… He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins… All of us, like sheep, have strayed away… Yet the Lord laid on Him the sins of us all.”— Isaiah 53:3–6

At the foundation of every relationship is connection. And through connection, we come to truly know the One we are connected to. There is something inside each of us that longs for what only God can give...connection with the One who breathed life into our souls.

As we connect with God, we discover purpose. We find where we belong. We begin to understand why we are alive and breathing right now.

Purpose Beyond What We Do

Our purpose is not tied to what we do. You could be an incredible musician, leader, speaker, accountant, or creative...and still miss the true reason for your existence. We exist to connect our hearts to the God of all creation and return to His original design: to walk with Him, talk with Him, and live in relationship with Him, just as we see in the Garden of Eden.

Our identity cannot be built on achievement, gifting, or success. When we allow our talents to define us, we anchor our value to something temporary. And when those gifts fade...as all things eventually do...we’re left searching for who we are. But identity and value rooted in God endure. They stand the test of time and hold us steady when everything else fails.

God is consistent, even when we are not. It’s no surprise that He is called the Ancient of Days (Daniel 7). In our pursuit of God’s heart, connection is everything...through prayer, Scripture, worship, praise, serving, giving, and every expression of devotion laid out for us in His Word.

How Do I Reconnect to God’s Heart?

Maybe you’re feeling weary, disconnected, or spiritually dry. You’re not alone. Life has a way of pulling us in every direction, and without intention, we can slowly drift from the presence and heart of God.

Here are four simple ways to begin reconnecting today.

1. Slow Down and Reset

Step out of the race for a moment and realign your heart. Take a deep breath and honestly look at your life. Often, we already know what needs to change...we just haven’t slowed down enough to listen.

Try this: Write down where your time, energy, and attention are going. Prioritize what matters most. When we build our lives around what God is calling us to right now, clarity begins to emerge.

2. Pray

When communication breaks down, relationships suffer. The same is true with God. In dry seasons, prayer isn’t optional...it’s essential. Prayer is how we remain connected to the presence of God and allow Him to restore our hearts.

Try this: Schedule time with God like you would any important meeting. Put it on your calendar...and show up consistently.

3. Read Scripture

Start with the Bible. Find a reading plan and commit to it daily. There is no quicker way to come alive than to allow the living Word of God to shape your heart. From there, read books that inspire faith and draw you closer to God.

Try this: Open the Bible app today and choose a plan that sends daily reminders...and keep the commitment.

4. Invite Accountability

Isolation loses its power when we invite someone else in. Accountability is a gift from God. Opening up about where we truly are can be uncomfortable...but it’s also deeply healing.

Try this: Reach out to someone you trust and ask them to walk with you as you pursue deeper connection with God.

Connection requires intention and consistency. As you seek God, set your heart on staying connected...and allow everything else in your life to flow from that place.

A prayer for you today...

God, draw us back to You. Still our hearts. Restore what has grown weary. Teach us to walk with You again...to listen, to linger, to belong. We choose connection.

We choose You. Amen.
